A Quick Guide on How to Minimize Pores

Facial pores are seen as a bothersome imperfection by many of us and so tips on how to minimize pores are always welcome. Before we go into some ways to reduce the appearance of pores, to acquire that great looking skin, it is worth noting that pores are not all bad. They are a part of the natural state of the skin and clean pores are essential for healthy skin. When we speak of minimizing pores the idea is not to seal them shut but to reduce their diameter.

Why are some pores bigger than others?

While it is true that all of us have pores, different skin types have different level of visibility when it comes to pores. This does not seem to follow any predictable pattern.  Doctors suggest that heredity or genetic make-up, sun exposure, improper skin cleansing and blackhead formation may all have something to do with the enlargement of pores.

While some things like genetic aspects cannot be controlled, the other elements can be monitored to minimize pores.

What to do while cleansing?

However, this does not mean that we can vigorously rub away at our faces to try and make it sparkle. The human skin is not the same as that gleaming pot in the kitchen and you do not have to attack both with the same degree of physical effort. It is very important to treat out skin with gentleness at all times.

Wash your face with a natural soap – a brand that has the least chemical additives is a good bet. It may even be advisable to go fragrance free to find a soap made of natural ingredients. There are many that claim to be nature-derived but it is a good idea to lead to label for ingredients. Choose one which has the least number of chemicals listed. Wet your face thoroughly and then lather with the soap and spread all over face and neck. Apply soap and lather with gently circular motion. (This is the recommended way of applying anything on the face.) Pay special attention to the T-zone which is the forehead and the bridge of the nose as also the jaw line. Now wash away the soap. Pat your face dry. This is a good way to start and end the day whatever else you do as a part of your beauty regimen.

There are several herbal exfoliation kits available these days in the corner drug store. You can choose to use one which has alpha hydroxyl acid or beta hydroxyl acid. It is also a good idea to use some homemade exfoliation process to reduce the chemicals you use on your skin. A paste of water and baking soda is amazingly effective in cleansing the skin. Gently apply this with circular motion and rinse it off after 10 minutes to get that natural glow.

Vitamin A is also good for the skin and so it is a good idea to use a topical application of this either as a cream or lotion. Moisturizers are good for skin health but choose one that suits your skin type and do not pick based only on how it smells. Make sure it contains ingredients known to promote skin health.

Azelaic acid has emerged in studies as beneficial to skin as it fights a bacteria commonly found on the skin surface. There are creams that are available with this as an ingredient which help the reduction of pores.
